Collaboration with Asian Countries

Activity in Asian countries in recent years is remarkable in the field of material science. There are two members each from National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology and National Institute of Materials science in our G-COE. One of the important objectives of these institutes is to industrialize materials researches. They also contribute Asia Nanotech Forum (ANF), which accomplishes research and education programs with 13 core institutes in Asia. We can invite Ph.D students though this program and promote the opportunity of communication with our Ph.D students. Taking this advantage, we aim to establish a center of materials research in Tokyo Tech. In addition to the existing programs to China (Tsinghua Univ.) and Korea (KAIST), we will establish collaboration with other countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Honkong, Thailand, India, and so on.

Reasons for the collaboration with Asian countries

  • Shift to Asia of centers of materials researches and materials production technologies

Share of numbers of scientific papers (USA : EU : Asia = 1 : 1 : 1)
High growing rate particularly in nanotech field

  • Center of development in the world is Asia in this coming 100 years.
  • Geographical merit

Our efforts so far made:

  • Dual Degree Program between Tokyo Tech and Tsinghua Univ. since 2005
  • Student exchange based on TIT-KAIST Program (JSPS) since 2000
  • ANF since 2004
